Hydration Timing That Works

Hydration timing is as important as hydration amount for performance.

Most athletes don’t struggle with how much they drink — they struggle with when they drink. Hydration timing affects focus, body temperature, and muscle function.

Chugging water right before practice is too late. Smart hydration starts hours earlier and continues steadily.

Hydrate smarter:

  • Drink water steadily throughout the school day
  • Include electrolytes on intense or hot days
  • Drink lightly during practice breaks
  • Refuel fluids within 30 minutes afterward

Casa et al., Hydration and Performance (2010)

Hydrate Early\n• Hydrate before thirst hits\n• Electrolytes matter on hard days\n• Timing affects performance
