Mastering the Calm Breath

Mastering breath control improves focus, recovery, and confidence.

Breathing may be the most underrated mental skill in sports. A slow exhale lowers heart rate, reduces tension, and improves focus. Athletes who control their breath control their performance — especially under pressure.

Breathing resets are used at the Olympic and pro levels because they work quickly and reliably.

Use calm-breathing during:

  • Nerves before competition
  • High-pressure moments
  • Fatigue between reps
  • Resetting after mistakes

Stallard, Breathing Techniques for Performance (2014)
