Change of Direction Basics
Changing direction with control is a huge advantage in nearly every sport.
Game speed is not just straight-line speed. It is the ability to stop, start, and change direction under control. Poor technique wastes energy and increases the chance of ankle or knee injuries.
Good change of direction starts with low hips, strong posture, and controlled foot placement.
Key movement cues:
- Lower your center of gravity before cutting
- Plant with a strong, stable foot under your body
- Push the ground away in the new direction
- Use your arms to help brake and re-accelerate
