Playing Your Role
Teams win when athletes own their current role instead of fighting it.
Every successful team has star players, role players, and everything in between. Winning programs are built on athletes who fully own their role instead of resenting it. When each person does their job at a high level, the whole team rises.
Roles can change over time, but sulking in the present role helps nobody. Owning your role creates trust and often leads to bigger opportunities later.
How to own your role:
- Ask your coach what your role is right now
- Crush the details of that role every day
- Support teammates in their roles
- Be ready when your role expands
